BREAKING: Police On Red-Alert As Northern Okada Riders Threaten Mayhem In Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Sunday reacted to a social media message that has gone viral, which warned of an impeding protest by commercial Motorcyclist’s that could turn ugly on the 1st of June, 2022, the day the State intends to enforce it’s Okada ban policy.
One of the messages trending on social media reads, “Lagos State Government has given 1st of June, 2022 as the Take-Off date of Okada Riders ban in most part of Lagos metropolis.
“Because of this, the Okada Riders mostly the Northern Okada Riders have declared civil disobedience on that day to protest against the ban. It’s envisaged that it would be rambunctious.
“Please, stay indoors or at a walking distance to your homes that day to avoid being victims of this mayhem which they have planned and deliberated upon to unleash on that day.
“Please let’s be very vigilant. Please pray for Nigeria and pray also for the peace of the city you live in.
“The Northern Youths have sworn to go on rampage that day. Please stay safe and watch situation and the environment around you. Kindly be at alert for any eventuality.”
Reacting to the trending panic message on Sunday, the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin asked Lagosians to disregard the message as the police is on ground to ensure normalcy in the State.
According to the Lagos State Police Spokesman, “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a panic-laced message making the rounds on social media purporting that motorcycle riders in the state have concluded plans to disrupt social and commercial activities in Lagos State from June 1, 2022 in protest of the ban on the use of motorcycles within six LGAs in Lagos State.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc, psc, mnim uses this medium to assure all Lagosians that all necessary human, material and operational resources have been deployed across the state to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
“A carefully drafted security architecture, resulting from a detailed crime-mapping of the state has been emplaced across the length and breadth of the state.
“In addition, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders have been placed on red alert towards any eventuality.
“CP Alabi, therefore, enjoins all residents of Lagos State to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or intimidation before, during and after the touted date for the purported civil disturbance, as officers and men of the Command are fully on top of the situation.”
