How Customs Disconnected Us From Portal Without Notice-GTBank
Fred Omotara, Lagos
The Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) has explained to clearing agents how the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yanked the bank off it’s portal without notice, thereby causing untold hardship for port users over duty payment procedure.
Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with clearing agents under the aegis of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) in Lagos, representatives of the bank who simply identified himself as Mr. Lanre Kola-Banjo explained that the bank officials woke up one morning to discover that Customs had removed the bank from it’s payment portal.
According to the GTBank representative, “We want to apologize for the hardship caused by this sudden severance of GTCO from the Customs Portal. We were not informed or notified by Customs before they removed us.
“The problem was as a result of technical fault from our server.
“But it’s not true that Customs gave us a two weeks notice before removing us. We just woke up one morning and discovered that we have been disconnected by Customs.”
He further explained that it was after the bank had been suspended from accessing the NCS portal that they were given two weeks to fix the technical problem or face serious sanction. He said that the problem has since been resolved.
