A Dana Air Aircraft with registration number 5N JOY which was set to depart Port Harcourt airport for Lagos on Monday with 50 passengers suffered tyre issues as some of the aircraft tyres sparked off smoke like fire while the aircraft was taxiing.
However, the airline, In a statement explained that all 50 passengers successfully disembarked from the aircraft and that the aircraft has been grounded.
According to an eye witness who was at the Port Harcourt airport when the Dana Air Aircraft was set to depart, the aircraft had to abort the flight because the tyres suddenly started emitting smokes like flames after sparking off during taxiing.
The eye witness who spoke with kadecommunicationng exclusively stated that, “The aircraft was taxiing and suddenly, smoke like fire was coming from the tyres. The pilot had to be alerted and he immediately stopped the aircraft while the passengers were immediately disembarked,” the eye witness who wouldn’t want his name in print told our Correspondent in Port Harcourt.
Dana Airline, in a statement issued in the early hours of Tuesday by its Communications and Marketing Manager, Kingsley Ezenwa confirmed the development, but blamed the issue on an anomaly which was queried with the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
In the words of Dana Airline, “Our aircraft with registration number 5N JOY operating flight 9J 344 from Port Harcourt to Lagos on 2nd of May 2022 was set to take off when the pilot in command noticed an anomaly which he queried with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) before embarking on a ramp return in line with our strict safety operating procedures
“However, the impact on the brakes as a result of the aborted take off affected the aircraft tyres which sparked off while the aircraft was taxiing to re-park
“All 50 passengers onboard the aircraft disembarked safely and our maintenance team immediately grounded the aircraft pending the conclusion of their investigations.
“Once again, we sincerely apologize to all the passengers on the flight for the inconveniences caused due to the eventual cancellation of the flight.
