Customs Arrest Two Dangote Trucks For Concealing 500 Bags Of Rice

Attempt by smugglers to bring in foreign parboiled rice concealed with sand inside two Dangote trucks has been foiled by officials of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of Nigeria Customs Service in Lagos.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in Lagos, Acting Controller of the Customs FOU Zone A’, Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu disclosed that the smugglers covered the bags of rice with sand inside the Dangote trucks in an attempt to deceive Customs officers.
Ejibunu, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs decried the reliance of some Nigerians on smuggled foreign rice as food as such commodities are subjected to unhygienic and other unwholesome forms of handling
For the month of May, Ejibunu disclosed that seizures made amounted to a total duty paid value of N818,124,640 and income recovered amounted to N64,297,916.23 as revenue from shortfalls in duty payments discovered after documentary checks.
