As Amaechi Plays Host To Mayweather, Kaduna Train Victims Families Protest

As the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi played host to boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather in Abuja on Monday, families of kidnapped Abuja-Kaduna passenger train staged a protest in Kaduna, demanding for the sack of the Minister over what they termed superficial handling of the matter..

While staging a walk in Kaduna, the individuals who were vexed over the continued stay of their loved ones in captivity, demanded for the immediate resignation or sack of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

According to them, the Minister’s lack of concern and insensitivity towards the rescue of the 62 victims that were kidnapped during the attack, is cogent reason why he should be relieved of his duties.

At a peaceful protest on Monday, the aggrieved relatives accused Amaechi of abandoning the rescue of the kidnapped victims to pursue his presidential ambition.

They also called for the disbandment of the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, noting that the management have not reached out to the relatives of the victims six weeks after the attack.

The concerned relatives who had formed themselves into a group after the incident, have consistently held daily meetings and protests to draw the attention of the government.

During their latest protest exercise, the group matched slowly, and with banner in hand, they voiced out their displeasure in songs against the government songs.

Dr Abdulfatai Jimoh who serves as Chairman Concerned Relatives of Abducted Persons, told newsmen that these distraught families have lost their patience with the government.

A relative to one of the kidnap victims, Prof Abdulaziz Attah, said they have had enough and will now take a more daring approach to their protests.

“We are being pushed to the wall, we are advocating, calling on Nigeria, but in the next few days, we are going to change strategies, we are coming out this time around physically mobilizing Nigerians.

“We are coming to a point when we have to shut down the country.

“The Federal and State governments should get this message clear,” Professor Attach stressed.

It’s exactly 42 days and six weeks after the Abuja-Kaduna bound train was attacked by terrorists at Dutse forest in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state.

The attack left at least eight people dead, 26 others injured while several other passengers were abducted by the terrorists.

Among the abducted passengers were children, some as young as three years old, pregnant women, women including an 85-year-old great grandmother and a new baby whose mother put to bed while inside the forest.

While the dead victims might have been laid to rest and the injured ones recovering or recovered, the fate of the 62 kidnapped victims still hang in the balance, thereby giving their relatives sleepless nights
