Why Lagos Inland Waterways Is Poorly Policed-ATBOWATON

Fred Omotara, Lagos
The Lagos State Chapter of the Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON) has said that the Lagos inland waterways is poorly policed because of inefficient fuel supply at the disposal of patrol boats.
Recall that the Managing Director of an oil company and seven other workers where recently kidnapped on the Tin-Can stretch of the Lagos waterways by yet to be identified persons.
Speaking with Kadecommunicationng exclusively, Chairman, Lagos Chapter of ATBOWATON, Comrade Saheed Lawal said due to inefficient supply of petrol to power security patrol boats for long hours, patrolling the Lagos waterways by security operatives has not been impressive.
According to Comrade Saheed Lawal, “The level of policing of the Lagos waterways is not impressive at all.
“We hope more fuel supply will be given to security patrol boats to ensure they spend more time on our waterways.
“They (security officials) do complain to us of poor fuel supply when we come across them occasionally on our waterways. Government should increase fuel supply for our security officials to spend more time on our waterways.
“The way patrol vehicles move around on our roads, if patrol boats move around like that on our waterways, issue of kidnapping won’t be happening on our waters.”
