Residents Escape Death As Two Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Residents of a two storey building located at Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, Opposite Kilimanjaro/AP filling station cheated death by the whisker as the building collapsed on Saturday without any casualty recorded.
In a situation report released by the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) on Saturday, the building gave signs several hours before it collapsed, therefore affording occupants the opportunity to run out of the building before it caved in.
According to the LASEMA Situation Report, which was signed by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, “The Agency responded to the above at 0300hrs on Saturday morning.
“On arrival, information gathered from the residents revealed that the building gave signs several hours before it collapsed.
“Fortunately, nobody was trapped as all the occupants evacuated the area when the signs began- two hours before the collapse.
“A headcount of occupants was carried out to ensure no occupants is missing and the remains of the building were cordoned off. The operation was concluded at about 5:23am.
“The site will be handed over to LABSCA and Ministry of Physical Planning for further investigation.
