Overspeeding Dangote Truck Kills Motorcyclist, injures female passenger in Lagos

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Wednesday disclosed that an over-speeding Dangote truck ran into a motorcycle carrying a female passenger in Area B along Point Road in Apapa, killing the motorcyclist instantly while leaving the female passenger seriously Injured.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the Authority  said that the severely injured female passenger has been rushed to the Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The LASTMA statement reads: “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly attended to a fatal accident early today (Wednesday), involving a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) and a Dangote truck at Area B, near Point Road heading towards Airways, Apapa.
“The unfortunate incident, attributed to reckless driving by the Dangote truck driver, led to the immediate death of the motorcyclist at the scene.
“The collision, which occurred in the early hours, was a result of the truck driver losing control due to dangerous driving. The truck struck the motorcyclist, who had a female passenger on board.
“Despite the intensity of the crash, LASTMA Officials quickly intervened, rescuing the severely injured passenger and rushed  her to Apapa General Hospital for urgent medical attention.
“Both the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. In coordination with the Area B Police Station, LASTMA officers secured and removed the truck, handing it over to the police for further investigation.
“The LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a strong caution to truck drivers, urging them to observe speed limits and ensure their vehicles undergo regular maintenance before taking to the road.
“He also called on commercial motorcyclists to desist from using prohibited routes, including highways and bridges across the state.
“Mr. Bakare-Oki stressed the importance of strict adherence to traffic regulations by all road users to prevent further tragedies of this nature.
“While extending his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased motorcyclist, the General Manager expressed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured passenger receiving treatment at Apapa General Hospital
