Outrageous Marriage, Burial Expenses Fuelling Yahoo-Yahoo, Romance Scam, Drug Peddling-Omokri

Popular social media Influencer, Reno Omokri has blamed the increasing spate of Yahoo, Yahoo Plus, Advance Fee Fraud, romance scams, drug peddling in Nigeria on expensive marriages and burial ceremony.
In a post on his X page on Tuesday, Omokri said that if these crimes have to be reduced, then the State must pass and implement laws limiting how much people can spend on marriages and burials.
“As a nation, if we want to IMMEDIATELY reduce Yahoo, Yahoo Plus, Advance Fee Fraud, romance scams, drug peddling, and other crimes that some Nigerians engage in, then states should pass and implement laws limiting how much people can spend on marriages and burials, and then stringently implement such laws by sending a few prominent violators to jail. Because money to spend on marriages and burials is what is largely driving these criminal behaviours.
“When you have village elders and family heads asking young men in their early twenties to bring ₦10,000,000 before they can bury their parents or to drop ₦5,000,000 for their marriage lists, what do you expect? It is like instructing them to go and fetch money from wherever they can get it from, good or bad.
“Especially when some of our cultures are so avariciously competitive. If Remigius spent ₦15,000,000 to bury his mother, Paschal would feel that he must spend ₦20,000,000 to bury his father or village people would laugh at him.
“But when we use legislation to curb these unhealthy practices, sanity will return to our society, and we will instead spend such monies on the living and self-development. “Once we achieve that paradigm change, then these behaviours will gradually die a natural death, and Nigerians will no longer have the highest populations in many foreign prisons,” Reno Omokri stated.
