Nigerian High Commissioner Visits Maritime Academy, Lauds Infrastructural Transformation

 The Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica and member, International Seabed Association, Ambassador, Dr. Maureen Piribonemi Tamuno, while recently paying a visit to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), expressed delight at the level of transformation of Academy. This is even as the visit is expected to set in motion another visit by the IMO Secretary General, Mr. Kitack Lim, who is expected to visit the Academy with a high powered IMO delegation soon, for assessment and prioritization.

Reliable, but very impeccable sources at the Academy hinted that the High Commissioner and her delegation were overwhelmed by developments at the School.

According to our source, “The delegation led by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica was very impressed with what they saw at MAN.

“From our modern, state of the art training equipment, to structures and facilities at the Academy, the High Commissioner expressed satisfaction with what has been done by the Rector, Commodore, Duja Effedua Emmanuel, (rtd) and his management team.

“We are relaibly informed that the High Commissioner’s visit is a prelude to an IMO delegation, which shall be led by the Secretary General himself.

“The IMO team is expected to look at facilities at the Academy, evaluate and agree on what needs to be done to improve further, what already exists at the training Institution.

“Also, we gathered that a NIMASA delegation is expected to inspect and Audit training equipment and facilities at the school very soon.

“We are further told that the combination of the IMO and NIMASA visitation is aimed at Repositioning the Academy for global excellence which the Rector was appointed to actualize.”

Five years into the Rector’s eight year tenure, maritime stakeholders have unanimously endorsed the Commodore Duja administration as the best thing to happen to the Academy in the past two decades, if not more-considering where the Academy was and where it is now.

Recall that the Rector has procured and installed modern Simulators for training purposes at MAN.

It is expected that with these visits by these regulatory bodies, the Academy would cement it’s place as the number one maritime training institution in Africa
