Maritime Academy’s Lighthouse Trends As Nigeria Celebrates World Maritime Day

Ahead of Nigeria’s celebration of 2022 World Maritime Day on Thursday, the internet has been awash with photos of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Lighthouse launched in 2022.
Recall that In line with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandate on greener shipping and blue economy, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria earlier in the year unveiled it’s Lighthouse which falls in tandem with this year’s World Maritime Day theme: New Technology For Greener Shipping.
Rector of the Academy, Commodore Duja Effedua(Rtd.) said the new green and blue light from the Lighthouse is in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) directive that  iconic structures be lit  in blue and green for the 2022 World Maritime Day commemoration.
Recall that the IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim’s message on the World Maritime theme reads: “Our theme ‘New technologies for greener shipping’ opens up a larger conversation about shipping’s direction and how technology can be harnessed for a more sustainable future. It also provides an incentive to further examine how digitalization and automation can support shipping. But technological solutions for cleaner, safer and more sustainable shipping must also benefit people. In this regard, the impact on seafarers and other marine personnel, including the need for training must be considered
