The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) on Tuesday joined the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Waterfront Boat Owners and Transporters Association of Nigeria (WABOTAN), Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON) and other tourism inclined organisations to celebrate the 2022 World Tourism Day with a special boat trip to Takwa Bay from the Tarzan Jetty in Victoria Island.
This year’s World Tourism Day celebration which has as it’s theme: Rethinking Tourism is expected to showcase Nigeria’s unbelievable potentials of water recreation and transportation opportunities.
Speaking at the colourful event, tourism stakeholders called on the Federal Government to delegate more funding to the tourism sub-sector.
Some of the stakeholders argued that 80 percent of the annual budget for the industry is spent on recurrent expenditure, therefore, stagnating the sector developmental goals and allowing it to lag behind when compared to happenings in other climes.
The event saw presentations from the leadership of FTAN, ATBOWATON, NIWA and other groups.
