CIoTA, FRSC Organizes Road Safety Awareness Campaign In Lagos

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) on Tuesday organised a Road Safety Awareness Campaign in collaboration with the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) to sensitize stakeholders, operators and policy makers on global best practices on road use.

In a statement made available to kadecommunicationng by the National Publicity Secretary/Chairperson Media and Publicity Committee of CIoTA, Mrs. Chizoba Anyika, the institute said that the event was put together to educate the participants on the vision, mission and core values of the  Institute and its drive at maintaining professional standards and improving the skills of transport practitioners, enabling them to deliver exceptional value for their organizations.
According to the statement, “On behalf of the President Dr. Bashir Yusuf Jamoh,  we sincerely appreciate all the distinguished members who participated at the maiden edition of the CIoTA Road Safety Awareness Campaign which took place on Tuesday at the Ojota New Garage, Lagos with the theme  ‘Natural Disasters, Road Worthiness and Safety Rule Enforcement in Nigeria’.
“In view of the need to critically address the crisis of road accidents while professionally proffering workable solutions, the Institute in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Corps organized the event to  share knowledge and enlighten relevant stakeholders, operators and policy makers on global best practices on road use.
“The venue was filled to the brim with participants who were eager to strengthen the synergy and build a closer sectorial collaboration.
“In his opening remark, the President of CIoTA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh educated the participants on the vision, mission and core values of the  Institute and its drive at  maintaining professional standards and improving the skills of transport practitioners, enabling them to deliver exceptional value for their organizations
“Dr. Bashir Jamoh who was represented at the event by the National Publicity Secretary Mrs. Chizoba Anyika, appreciated the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps and the Management of Lagos State Parks and Garage Management Committee for accepting the request to co-host the event in addition to providing the logistics support.
“In his speech, the Chairman, CIoTA Lagos State, Dr. Taiwo Salaam re-echoed the need for safety consciousness in ensuring road worthiness and professionalism of all drivers.
“Other key members who spoke at the event were Special guest speaker Prince Segun Obayendo, GMD Temple Group/LACVIS; TRACE Ogun State Commander Prince Seni who was represented by Cdr Amin Ganiyu; and
Dr. Adeyemi Ajao, Secretary to Education and Training Committee of CIoTA.
“They all re-echoed the Institute’s advocacy and collaboration initiatives towards  mutually advancing the transport sector especially in the area of safety.
“The former CIoTA President, Princess Mullikat Sanni also lent her voice to the campaign.
“In his goodwill message, the representative of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, Lagos State Command, Commander O. C Olakoju shared some road-use ethics and sensitized all participants on the need to be safety conscious while his colleague, Cdr Ayo ologun, enlightened the park Union members on step by step procedures for safer use of the roads especially as the “ember” month is approaching.
“In his speech, Mr Ilemobola, representing MC Oluomo and  Mr Ogundimu Chairman Ojota motor park were very delighted at the collaboration and applauded the Institute, its Registrar Mr  Rasheed Aiyelabegan and his team for the laudable initiative which will  transform the road transport sector for the better.
“The event was anchored by CIoTA Spokesperson, Lagos Chapter Iya Shawama and the Institute’s Administrative Manager Mr. Daniel Aluma Ogbonna.
